Phillips & flat screwdrivers, plastic tweezers, isopropyl alcohol (90%+), cotton swabs
Common mistakes to avoid
- Handling the new belt with bare fingers, skin oils cause slipping. Use tweezers or clean hands with alcohol first.
- Not cleaning old belt residue off the pulleys, degraded rubber turns to goo and the new belt will slip. Clean every pulley with isopropyl alcohol before fitting.
- Forgetting the routing, take a photo of the old belt path before removing anything.
- Twisting a flat or square belt during fitting, it must sit flat in the pulley groove.
- Overstretching the belt while installing, walk it gently over the pulleys instead of pulling hard.
If the old belt has melted into tar, remove all residue completely first, a lighter fluid–damped swab works on stubborn goo, followed by isopropyl alcohol. Let everything dry before fitting the new belt.
